Wildcats down Red Raiders for historic upset

ABILENE, Texas – Sidney Holman-Mansell pitched a gem on Wednesday night to give the Wildcats a huge win over Texas Tech, snapping a five-game losing streak. While Holman-Mansell was solid in the circle, her team backed her up with seven runs scored including five in the third inning. The win over TTU marks the Wildcats fifth win over a Power Five school with all but one of those wins coming against the Red Raiders.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Red Raiders were the first to strike with back-to-back hits to lead off the first inning. With runners on second and third, a sacrifice fly brought in one run with a second coming in after an errant throw from right field.
  • Sadie Eichelberger led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and was followed by Miranda Lista who launched a monster homerun off the scoreboard in left field, tying the game 2-2.
  • The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the third and Sydney Kaiser came through with a single to bring home a run and give ACU the 3-2 lead.
  • Facing a new pitcher from TTU, Miranda Davila followed Kaiser with a single to drive in a run and an errant throw allowed the Wildcats to clear the bases and Davila to reach third.
  • Logan Gaspar was next to bat for the Wildcats and drove in Davila to push the Wildcats lead to 7-2.
  • Sidney Holman-Mansell shut Texas Tech down after the third inning, allowing just two base runners and no hits over the final four frames.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • This is the Wildcats' first Power Five win since 2018 when they earned an 11-10 win over Texas Tech in Abilene. It also marks the first Power Conference win of the Farler era.
  • Holman-Mansell allowed just three hits, two in the first inning and one in the third. She sat down nine straight batters from the fourth to the sixth innings.
  • Sydney Kaiser went 1-2 with an RBI to extend her hitting streak to four games.
  • Miranda Lista's homerun was her third of the season and brought her to 16 RBIs on the year.
  • The win is the Wildcats' 20th of the year, marking their first 20-win season since 2018.

ON DECK:
  • The Wildcats will close out their home schedule this weekend when they host Sam Houston. The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday and a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
  • The team will host Senior Day on Saturday prior to first pitch.
