4-3 win over Wichita improves ‘Cats to 5-0 at home

ABILENE, Texas – The ACU women's tennis team spoiled Wichita State's visit to the Big Country on Saturday, as the Wildcats won a tightly contested battle by a tally of 4-3. The Wildcats have now won all five home matches this season, outscoring opponents 33-6 in that span.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Wildcats dropped the second doubles flight, but the tandem of Maryjoe Crisologo and Andrea Guerrero pulled the Purple and White even with a 6-4 victory on Court 3. 
  • Sylvia Viljoen and Allison Stewart teamed up for a 6-4 win in the top doubles flight, giving ACU a huge first point of the afternoon. 
  • Guerrero began singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Clara Whitaker on Court 4, but the Shockers got on the board with a win in the sixth flight. 
  • After Court 3 saw WSU tie the match at 2-2, Crisologo buckled down and won a three-setter in the top flight to put the Wildcats back in front. 
  • Ileana Mocciola and Dohee Lee went back-and-forth on Court 5, but ultimately Mocciola held on to clinch the day for the Wildcats with a 7-5 win in the third set.  
 
UP NEXT: 
  • The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday afternoon, when they head to Baylor for the final match before Western Athletic Conference play begins on Saturday in Hunstville.
