Trio of 'Cats lead way against Tarleton

ABILENE – Grad transfers Jamie Bonnarens and Tatum Barber went for 17 and 15 points, respectively, Sarah Griswold added 13, but the ACU women's basketball team fell at home Saturday afternoon to Tarleton at the Teague Center, 73-67. The Wildcats (15-9, 7-6 WAC) trailed by as many as 14 points, but did get within two pointsi in the fourth quarter before Tarleton pulled away with a few baskets late. ACU remains in fourth place in the conference standings, pending on the outcomes of the rest of the Saturday games.

Turning Point: The first half and the final two minutes.
The Wildcats struggled to shoot it in the first half from distance, hitting just one three-pointer on nine attempts. ACU trailed by 12 points at halftime, with Tarleton shooting 47% from the floor. In the fourth quarter, ACU got within two points with a Jamie Bonnarens three-pointer, erasing a 12-point deficit. However, Tarleton scored six of the final eight points, and ACU hit just one of their final seven shots, with Tatum Barber scoring as time expired.

- 1Q | Madi Miller scored inside to give ACU a 7-5 lead.
- 1Q | Emma Middleton converted in the paint to snap an 11-11 tie. It was ACU's final lead of the game.
- 1Q | Tarleton's Tyler Jackson hit a three in the corner as time expired in the first quarter to put the Texans up seven, 22-15.
- 2Q | Barber was aggressive the entire game, scoring on back-to-back possessions to cut the deficit to 28-23.
- 3Q | Griswold got going early in the third with a pair of mid-range jumpers, and the latter put ACU down seven, 43-36.
- 4Q | Miller hit another three-pointer to put the 'Cats down 59-50.
- 4Q | Trailing 64-52, ACU made a run. Griswold hit a foul shot and Bonnarens hit a three to go down eight, 64-56. After the teams exchanged baskets, Griswold got one to go to trail 66-60. Then a technical foul was issued to Tarleton, and Bonnarens hit both free throws to trail 66-62. Tarleton hit a free throw themselves, then Bonnarens cashed a three to get within two, 67-65.

Stat Pack
- Bonnarens' 17 led ACU, giving her five straight games in double figures. The grad transfer hit three from downtown and added six rebounds and three assists with one block.
- Barber added 15 on 6-of-13 from the floor, to go with six boards and a pair of helpers.
- Griswold notched 13 on 5-of-9 shooting, and added four rebounds.
- Bella Earle scored nine points in 19 minutes, and fouled out of the game.
- Miller added eight for ACU, and grabbed two steals.
- ACU turned over Tarleton 18 times and scored 22 points off turnovers. The 'Cats also tallied 34 points in the paint.
