Wildcats roll to 61-point win over Howard Payne

ABILENE — The Wildcats closed out their non-conference slate on Wednesday night, putting on an offensive show on their way to a 113-52 win over Howard Payne. All 13 players who saw the court scored and six players put up double figures. ACU was dominant on the glass, grabbing a DI-record 58 rebounds, including 21 offensive boards.   
 
Key Plays
  • Tobias Cameron hit back-to-back threes to open the game and give ACU the early 6-0 lead.
  • Airion Simmons found Cameron Steele for an open three to put the team up 21-7 through six minutes of action.
  • The Wildcats ran an out-of-bounds play to perfection with Ja'Sean Jackson lobbing it up to Joe Pleasant for a dunk with 11:20 to play in the first half.
  • The team closed the first half on a 9-0 run, capped by an Ali Dibba fastbreak slam at the buzzer, to hold a 61-29 lead at the break.
  • Damien Daniels scored the first five points of the second half with a driving layup followed by a corner three on the next possession.
  • Dibba grabbed an offensive board and got the putback to give ACU their largest lead of the night at 88-44.
  • Muodubem Muoneke picked the pocket of an HPU player and took it the other way for a monster slam to put ACU up 52 points with just over two minutes to play.
  • Yuot Gai grabbed an offensive rebound late and found a wide open Colby Tanner in the corner to put the final touches on the 113-52 win.

  • Six Wildcats scored in double figures with Tobias Cameron matching a career-high of 18 points and JV Seat setting a new career-high with 11 points off the bench.
  • Joe Pleasant has put up double figures in each of his last three games and has shot 50 percent or better in his last six.
  • The Wildcats grabbed 58 rebounds, a program record at the DI level, and has 21 on the offensive glass. The team scored 24 second chance points.
  • Hunter Jack Madden had just five points but dished out a team-high six assists, a career best for the junior.
  • Leonardo Bettiol grabbed a career-high seven rebounds to go along with nine points.
Up Next
The Wildcats will have eight days over the Christmas holiday before they are back in action. The team will kick off WAC play on the road with a trip to Nacogdoches on Dec. 29. ACU and SFA will face off in Johnson Coliseum in one of the marquee matchups of WAC opening weekend, the game tips at 6:30 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
