Maleeah Langstaff and
Madi Miller both recorded double-doubles, the team dominated on the glass 47-26, and the ACU women's basketball ran away from Nicholls at Moody Coliseum on Monday night, topping the Colonels 76-36. Four Wildcats finished in double figures in points and eight players with multiple rebounds in the 40-point win to get the team back to 5-5 on the season. The 'Cats hit 11 three-pointers, shot 50% from the floor, and scored 21 points off turnovers en route to the 40-point onslaught. ACU remains undefeated (4-0) at Moody, and will look to build its winning streak when it hosts McMurry on Wednesday afternoon.
Key Plays
- After Nicholls scored the first basket of the night, ACU responded with a layup from Bella Earle to even it up. It was a slow offensive start for both teams, and then ACU went on an 8-0 run to take a lead it would not give back. Miller hit a three-pointer and Aspen Thornton scored inside to push the lead, and the onslaught was on.
- Addison Martin got two quick fouls in the first 90 seconds of the game, and Raychael Harjo came in and made an immediate impact. The sophomore buried a three to extend the lead to 13-4.
- After ACU led 8-4, ACU went on a 13-2 run to close the quarter, pushing the advantage to 21-6. Zoe Jackson and Harjo scored the final two buckets of the first for ACU to push the lead out.
- Nicholls cut it to 23-10 to start the second, but that was short-lived when Langstaff buried a three at the 5:54 mark.
- Miller hit a three to blossom the lead to to 17, 31-14, with 3:44 to go until halftime.
- Langstaff hit back-to-back three-pointers to open the third quarter, and the lead was all of a sudden 23 points, the largest of the game.
- Jackson scored five points in a row in the middle of third to extend the lead to 30, 53-23.
- Langstaff's layup in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 40 for the first time, and Hampton Williams hit a three-pointer later to make sure it stayed there, at 76-36.
Turning Point
The 13-2 run to close the first quarter made it 21-6 at the end of one, and the game was never in question after that.
Stat Pack
- ACU shot 50% from the floor, including going 11-30 from the three-point line. The foul line was not needed, as ACU attempted only seven free throws.
- ACU scored 27 bench points, scored 10 fast-break points, and scored 21 points off turnovers.
- Langstaff scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
- Miller dropped 11 points and hauled in 10 board for her second double-double of the season as well.
- Jackson added 12 points off the bench on 5-11 shooting with a pair of rebounds.
- Thornton kept her double-digit streak going with 10 more points, making it four in a row for the point guard.
- Harjo and Bella Earle each dropped nine points, with Harjo securing six rebounds and Earle bringing in eight boards.
- Langstaff, Miller, Earle, and Thornton all talllied three assists each. Earle added four steals as well.
- Prior to the game, Maleeah Langstaff was awarded the game ball for scoring her 1,000th career point. She did so against Oral Roberts last Sunday.
