Wildcats look to bounce back with two games in Teague this week

ABILENE, Texas - Wildcats men's basketball returns to the Teague Center this weekend and it will be another tough test as the team hosts Seattle (13-4, 4-0 WAC) and California Baptist (11-6, 1-3 WAC). The Redhawks have yet to lose in WAC play but will be on a short turnaround after playing on Monday night in Riverside, Calif. where they edged CBU in overtime. The Lancers have a big win over Utah Valley under their belts but have lost three league games by a combined 12 points. ACU will be back at full strength this week looking to defend home court and get back in the win column.

ACU Storylines (11-6, 2-4 WAC)

  • The Wildcats will be back to full strength this week after playing without Airion Simmons, Logan McLaughlin, and Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu on the road last week. 
  • ACU has lost four-straight and during that stretch opponents have shot 45 percent or better from three with at least 10 makes from deep. The team will have to lock down the perimeter to get back in the win column.
  • Coryon Mason leads the Wildcats in scoring with 12.1 ppg with both Mahki Morris (10.0) and Airion Simmons (10.0) also averaging double figures on the year.
  • ACU remains atop the NCAA in turnovers forced (22.18) and turnover margin (+9.5) and are second in steals per game (11.4) behind only LSU. 
  • When the Wildcats face Seattle on Thursday it will be the third-straight team they face who is unbeaten in conference play.

Scouting the Redhawks (13-4, 4-0 WAC)

  • Seattle is anchored by strong guard play with both Darrion Trammell and Cameron Tyson averaging over 16 ppg on the season.
  • As a team, the Redhawks are shooting 37 percent from behind-the-arc and are averaging 10.6 made threes per game.
  • The Redhawks are 4-0 in WAC play for the first time with important wins over Utah Valley and California Baptist.
  • On top of his 16.4 ppg, Trammell is also averaging 5.8 apg, 3.9 rpg, and 2.9 steals per game which leads the WAC.

Scouting the Lancers (11-6, 1-3 WAC)

  • The Lancers have been on the losing end of a buzzer beater at Chicago State, lost by three to Dixie State, and lost in overtime after Seattle hit a game-tying three with seconds left to play. Despite their 1-3 record, the Lancers will be ready to get a win under their belts this week.
  • Taran Armstrong has been a standout freshman for CBU and leads the conference in assists with 7.2 per game. 
  • CBU has four players averaging double-digit scoring on the season led by Dan Akin who is averaging 13.2 ppg on 63.7 percent shooting while also averaging over eight rebounds per game.
  • The Lancers have played 13 of their 17 games at home with an 11-2 record, but have yet to win a game on the road this season.
