LUBBOCK, Texas – The Abilene Christian men's tennis team opened the season on Thursday afternoon, falling on the road at Texas Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The top doubles tandem of Daniel Morozov and Tyler Stewart picked up a 6-4 win, but the Red Raiders answered a win on Court 3, setting the stage for the second flight to decide the doubles point.
- Savan Chhabra and Riley Tran teamed up to give Ilgiz Valiev and Dimitrios Azoidis all they could handle, but the Purple and White ultimately fell 7-4 in a thrilling tiebreaker.
- Mihaly Deli fell 6-1, 6-3 in the fifth singles flight before Valiev took the second flight 6-1, 6-4 to put the Red Raiders on the brink of victory.
- Stewart was tripped up 6-3, 6-4 on Court 3 in the clinching point, while Issac Arevalo defeated Morozov 6-2, 6-2 in the top flight.
- Tran fell 6-3, 6-2 in #6 singles, but Chhabra ended the day on a strong note for the Wildcats, picking up a 7-5 tiebreaker before following up with a 6-2 win.
UP NEXT
- The Wildcats were scheduled to return to action with two matches on Saturday in Waco, but, as of Thursday evening, those have been postponed due to health and safety protocols within the Baylor program. ACU is now scheduled to play the second match of the season on Jan. 22 with a road trip to Oklahoma.
