ABILENE— The Wildcats won their season opener behind historic efforts from
Lindsey Toney and
Madison Rohre in four sets over UTA. The teams played three tight sets before ACU pulled away with a dominant fourth set to seal the win.
The Wildcats closed out set one on a 5-0 run after falling behind 23-20 to shift the momentum fully in their favor. ACU held off a late comeback attempt by the Mavericks in set two that allowed them to take the commanding 2-0 lead. The third set was tight throughout and featured 19 ties and nine lead changes before UTA came away with the win in extra points.
After the tough loss in set three, the Wildcats came out fired up in set four taking a commanding 6-1 lead behind a solid serve from Toney. She notched three early aces in the set and went on to break the Wildcats' DI-era match record for kills tallying 33 on the night. ACU eventually pulled ahead and won by nine to secure the win to open 2021.

News and Notes
- Toney's 33 kills and 37.5 points both are new DI records for the Wildcats. She not only notched 33 kills but did it on an astounding .429 hitting percentage. The 33 kills were also the second most in a match in program history.
- Toney was not alone in her record-breaking performance with Madison Rohre notching 59 assists on the night which was also a DI-era record.
- In her debut for the Wildcats, Jada Birkel was impressive as well with 18 kills on a .371 hitting percentage.
- Madison Lawler also had an outstanding debut tallying 24 digs on the night.
- Toney and Rohre both tallied double-doubles on the night and freshman, Bryley Steinhilber just missed one with nine kills and 13 digs.
