ABILENE – The 2021 regular season came to an end Saturday at Crutcher Scott Field as the Wildcat baseball team capped off a historic campaign before heading to the postseason next week. ACU fell to SFA, 9-3, but the most important part of the day was honoring its three seniors prior to the game, and got playing time for multiple players throughout the day. The 'Cats cap the season with a 34-19 record and a 25-13 Southland clip, winning the program's first Southland Conference regular season championship. ACU recognized seniors

SFA scored a pair of runs in the first and led 2-0 through four innings. ACU finally got a base runner in the fifth when
Brett Hammit tripled to center field, and got the first run when he scored on a wild pitch. The Lumberjacks added two in the sixth, one in the seventh, three in the eighth, and one in the ninth to score nine runs on nine hits. ACU scored two in home seventh after a fielder's choice play off

Alexei Cazarin scored on a wild pitch.
Overall, it was a 21-8 record at The Crutch in 2021 as ACU won six series at home. The Wildcats also won their last five series of the season, capping off a historic campaign with a celebration on the field Friday when they claimed the league championship.
Speaking of the league championship, ACU will be the No. 1 seed next week in Hammond, La. at the Southland Conference Tournament. The opponent and time have yet to be determined. ACUSports.com and ACU_Baseball on social media will update you on everything involving the tournament.
