ABILENE – Christina Arteaga scored the lone goal in the 64th minute, the defense was strong all afternoon, and the ACU soccer team capped the weekend with a bang Sunday against the McNeese Cowgirls, shutting out the visitors 1-0. ACU (5-4-2, 1-2-0 SLC) limited McNeese to just three shots on goal, and gets its first win of the Southland Conference season.
The Goal

Caylen Wright had the ball down the left side, and turned on a dime to send it back to Arteaga. The senior gathered the ball very quickly, and immediately sent a rocket from the top left of the box to the upper right corner of the net for the only score of the day.
The Numbers
- After trailing 7-5 in shots in the first half, ACU outshot McNeese 10-5 in the final 45 minutes, asserting themselves on the offensive end.
- McNeese only placed three shots on frame, and
Erin Smith and the defense were spectacular, claiming their third shutout of the 2020-21 season.
- ACU led 7-6 in corner kicks.

- ACU is on the road next week when they take on Houston Baptist and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next Friday and Sunday, March 12 and 14. It opens up a four-game road trip for the team.
