HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sophomore
Natalie Jones scored a two goals and the defense was dominant as the ACU soccer team picked up a 2-0 road win at Sam Houston Tuesday afternoon. The Wildcats (7-5-1, 3-3-0 SLC) pick up their second straight victory, with both goals coming in the second half. Sam Houston had a chance to tie it up at one with a penalty kick, but it missed and ACU held the lead. Jones then responded with a PK herself, and the 2-0 lead was too much for the Bearkats to overcome.
Southland Significance
ACU is in a tie for sixth in the Southland standings with nine points, and with still five games left to go in the regular season in league play, the 'Cats still are in a good position to get a bid to the Southland Conference Tournament in Beaumont.
The Goals
- 58' | Jones scored her first of the season on a smooth goal in transition from 30 years away.
- 82' | After a Sam Houston foul, Jones lined up for the PK. SHSU had just missed out on one on their end, but Jones capitalized to score her second goal of the day to put the game away.
The Numbers
- ACU held possession most of the game, leading 15-7 in shot attempts including an 11-6 edge in the second half.
- Jones scored her first two goals of the season. It is the third multi-score game of her career.
- Jones also recorded a career-high eight shot attempts Tuesday, placing two on frame, both for scores.

- Sam Houston only placed two shots on goal, and
