Wildcats and Huskies finally meet Wednesday night

HOUSTON – The ACU women's basketball team has dealt with its fair share of cancellations and postponements, and because of that has not played the entire first trip through their Southland Conference opponents yet this year. But Wednesday night the Wildcats (11-5, 4-3 SLC) will finally line up against Houston Baptist for the first time this season at Sharp Gym. They will see the Huskies (7-5, 3-2 SLC) Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and then will play them again a week later, Feb. 17 in Abilene.

SERIES HISTORY

ACU is a remarkable 10-0 all-time against HBU, with the series dating back to the 2013-14 season, the Wildcats' first in Division I and the Southland Conference. ACU swept the matchups last year, winning 71-54 in Abilene and 84-79 in Houston.

ACU STORYLINES

  • BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN: After falling to Lamar on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at home, 71-65, ACU bounced back with a win over those same Cardinals, this time on the road in Beaumont, 76-65 in overtime. The 'Cats outscored their opponents 15-4 in the extra five minutes to run away and pick up their 11th win. More importantly it put ACU at 4-3 in the conference standings, tying them with Lamar.
  • CAREER DAYS: Redshirt senior Anna McLeod and junior Kamryn Mraz both had career scoring days at Lamar on Saturday. McLeod dropped 28, matching her highest mark, which she also achieved against Northern Colorado back in December. Mraz lit it up as well, scoring 19 points, the most in her career. The duo combined for 10 of ACU's 14 three-pointers made in the win.
  • CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS: Alyssa Adams ranks second in ACU's Division I history in career field goal percentage (52.0), and is now in sole possession of third place in career blocks (72). She moved ahead of Sydney Shelstead with a block on Saturday. Suzzy Dimba (2013-17) has a ridiculous 194 in her one-of-a-kind career, sitting in the top spot. Sara Williamson is second on the list with 81.
  • MAGIC NUMBER - 70: ACU is 11-0 this season when allowing under 70 points this season, and 0-5 when allowing 70 or more.

SCOUTING HOUSTON BAPTIST (7-5, 3-2 SLC)

  • The Huskies have alternated wins and losses in each of their last five games, and are currently coming off a road win at winless Northwestern State.
  • Timia Jefferson paces the Husky scoring attack, averaging 14.9 points per game, and is joined by N'Denasija Collins, who averages 10.3 points per contest, as the only two players who average double-digit points.
  • However, seven Huskies average at least six per game, and five players average at least eight points. It's a balanced attack that scores around 70.0 points per game for the season.
  • Donna Finnie is in her eighth season as the head coach at HBU, and is the winningest coach at the Division I level in HBU's program history.
