MBB to face CSU Bakersfield in doubleheader nightcap

ABILENE, Texas - In the first of only two basketball doubleheaders this season, the Wildcats will welcome CSU Bakersfield to the Teague Center on Wednesday night. The game will feature two teams who have similar, defensive-minded, strategies with both teams looking to extend win streaks. The Roadrunners come in with recent wins over Boise State and Idaho while the Wildcats are riding a six-game win streak with wins over UTA and Drexel.

ACU Storylines

  • The Wildcats extended their win streak to six games on Saturday night with a 17-point win over Drexel. Coryon Mason tied his career-high with 21 points in the game. 
  • ACU continues to lead the country in turnovers forced (23 per game) as well as turnover margin (+10.2 per game). 
  • The team continues to excel in the Teague Center moving to 18-0 while playing in the temporary facility. They are also winning in dominating fashion, winning by an average of 28.9 points per game and 24.9 points per game against DI opponents.
  • The Wildcats are 11th in the country for scoring offense at 84.0 points per game and are ninth in scoring margin (+20.4).
  • The team also has four different players with at least 10 steals on the season and six players who have eight or more. 

Scouting the Roadrunners

  • CSU Bakersfield is coming off of a last-second win over Idaho and previously earned an upset win on the road at Boise State. 
  • In the Roadrunners win over Boise State, the team allowed just 39 points and held the Broncos to 22.4 percent shooting in the matchup.
  • CSUB is averaging 68.5 points per game but has no players averaging double figures. Justin McCall leads the team scoring 9.5 points per game with both Shaun Williams and Justin Edler-Davis each averaging just over nine points per contest as well. 
  • Head coach Rod Barnes goes deep into his bench and has 12 players who are averaging at least 11 minutes of action per game.
