Wildcats force 28 turnovers in rout of McMurry

ABILENE, Texas — The Wildcats returned to action Saturday night in their rescheduled matchup with McMurry. Despite it being 10 days since their last game and only three practices with the full team leading up to today, they came away with the dominant 89-54 win. The team forced 28 turnovers and totaled 17 steals on the night as their defense picked up right where they left off. ACU held a 10-point lead at the first media timeout and the team never looked back on their way to their first home win of the season.

Key Plays
  • McMurry controlled the opening tip but the Wildcats forced a turnover right out of the gate and opened the scoring with a Coryon Mason three.
  • ACU went up by 12 early after a steal from Tobias Cameron led to an Immanuel Allen bucket in the paint in transition.
  • The team went on a 12-0 run over five minutes in the first half that pushed their lead from 15 to 27.
  • Cameron Steele grabbed an offensive rebound early in the second half and found Mahki Morris for a layup.
  • Steele followed that up just a few minutes later with a transition dunk after a steal from Tobias Cameron.
  • Reggie Miller found a cutting Mason for a dunk with just over seven minutes left to play to put the Wildcats up 32.
Stat Pack
  • ACU had four different players reach double-digit scoring on the night led by Airion Simmons who finished with 14.
  • Damien Daniels once again had a career-high in assists with 10 in the game. That is tied for fourth-most in game in ACU's DI history.
  • The Wildcats got 13 points from Coryon Mason and 11 from Mahki Morris while Furaha Cadeaux de Dieu scored 10 off the bench for a season-high.
  • ACU has now forced at least 20 turnovers in each of their first four contests and forced 28 tonight with a season-high 17 steals. The 17 steals is also tied for sixth all-time in a game for the Wildcats.
  • The team had a season-high 24 assists on the night.
  • ACU held the advantage in points in the paint (50-16), points off of turnovers (32-5) and bench scoring (42-26).
