Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Joss delivers, ‘Cats win thriller in OT

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The ACU women's soccer team played in an absolute classic match Sunday afternoon at the Bobcat Soccer Complex against the Sun Belt Conference's Texas State. It was a wild game from start to finish that featured back-and-forth scoring. TXST led 1-0, ACU then scored twice to lead 2-1, then the Bobcats answered to send it to overtime, and the Wildcats ended it there to pick up their first win of the season, 3-2. ACU (1-1-1) used the corner kick to its advantage and had three different players score in the win.

The Goals
24' | Texas State's Kiara Gonzales scores off an assist by Renny Moore.
29' | ACU answers five minutes later off a corner kick. Christina Arteaga dumped it off to Megan McAleer, who gave it right back to Arteaga. The senior did her thing, turning and sending a majestic ball from the top right side of the box to the top left corner of the net for the equalizer.
35' | Ashley Stamps dribbled through defenders near midfield, and sent a perfect ball down the middle to Jordan Michie, who gathered it with a defender on the right side in the box. Michie then kept her momentum going forward and sent one off her right foot across the way to the left side of the goal to give ACU a 2-1 advantage.
75' | Sydney Kammar scores off an assist from Olivia Wright.
99' | ACU had back-to-back corner kicks in the final seconds of the first OT. The second one was headed out of the box to the left by Michie, and Alyssia Anuat gathered it. She sent it back in to the box, and after a deflection off the head of a Bobcat, junior transfer Ellen Joss rose up in the middle, and sent a header to the top right corner of the net for the golden goal.

The Numbers
- Corner kicks were very important Sunday. ACU led 12-5 in that category, and scored two goals off them as well. ACU led 8-1 in corners in the second half.
- ACU led 23-18 in shot attempts, including 11-9 in shots place on frame. The key, however, was limiting SOG. ACU held TXST to just three in the second half.
- Arteaga led the way with eight shots, including five on frame. Her goal is the 72nd of her brilliant career, and the first of the season.
- Michie tallied her first of the year, and Joss recorded her first as a Wildcat.
- Brittney Harris tallied three attempts, placing two on goal.
- Megan Paul and Brianna Diaz each tallied a pair of shots.
- Erin Smith recorded seven saves, earning her first win of the season.

Head Coach Casey Wilson
"We will take the win on that one going on the road to play a match on same day travel. We did not get settled into the game for some time and made some decisions that hurt our cause. But we fought through it and had some players step up and put it in the back of the net when we needed it. As we navigate through the fall we will figure some things out about this team which will be a great tool for the spring."

Up Next
- Sunday marked ACU's final game on the road. The Wildcats will play at Elmer Gray Stadium for the first time on Friday, Sept. 25 against former Lone Star Conference rival Angelo State. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
