SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The ACU baseball team fell to the UC-Santa Barbara Gauchos Friday evening on the west coast to open a three-game series. UCSB led 3-0 after three innings and did not look back en route to a 7-0 win over the Wildcats.
It was a three-run third frame off Wildcat starter Austin Wager, who suffered his first loss of the season (1-1). Wagner went four innings allowing four runs on five hits.
Johnnie Krawietz, who made the start in the fourth game of the series against Utah Valley to open the season, entered the game in the fifth and allowed one run.
Austin Glaze tossed the final three innings in relief for ACU.
Rodney Boone (5.1 IP) earned the win for the Gauchos, and combined with two other pitchers to limit ACU to just three hits.
Colton Eager,
Seth Watts, and
Hayden Clearman collected hits for the Wildcats, with Eager ripping a double in the sixth inning.
Five ACU errors hurt them defensively, and UCSB took advantage with nine hits as well.
Game two of the series takes place on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT.
