CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas baseball jumped out to leads of 3-0, 6-1 and 9-3 en route to completing its sweep of Abilene Christian baseball behind a 10-4 Mother's Day win Sunday at Bear Stadium. The Bears improved to 27-23 with the win, while the Wildcats slipped to 23-26 and will need a sweep of Nicholls later this week at home in order to guarantee a .500 season.
Game times for the Nicholls series at Crutcher Scott Field are Thursday and Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. The Wildcats need a sweep of the Colonels and get some help as they sit 2.0 games out of the final playoff spot with only three games remaining.
ACU today scored its first run in the third inning where
Dalon Farkas singled home
Dalton Dunn on a ground ball to second base, cutting UCA's lead to 3-1, but the hometown Bears responded with a three spot in their half of the frame, pushing their lead to 6-1. Dunn then cracked a two-out, two-run single to left field in the fourth inning, plating
Colton Eager and
Collin Chaney to make it a 6-3 ball game.
The Wildcats finished the game with 11 base hits, but the Bears had an answer for each of them and finished out the game with another three-run fifth and a sacrifice fly RBI in the seventh inning.
Matt Muñoz scored ACU's final run in the sixth, coming home on
Colton Eager's triple to right field. Dunn, Eager and Muñoz all finished with two base hits, and both of Eager's were for extra bases as he clubbed a double and triple.
ACU starter
Jonathan Nicholson was saddled with the loss, while the win was awarded to UCA middle reliever Conner Williams who allowed one run over 4.0 innings with three strikeouts.
