ABILENE – The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament Friday night after taking two from ACU at Poly Wells Field. The Wildcat offense was limited to 10 total hits, including just four in a 2-1 loss in game one. SFA then opened up its offense in game two, scoring 10 times on 17 hits to win 10-3.
The teams will get together for the series finale Saturday at 12 p.m. The squad will then host its first Softball Easter Egg Hunt on the field for fans, friends, and family. Fans are invited to bring their own basket to search for eggs.
Game 1: SFA 2, ACU 1
The Ladyjacks got on the board in the top of the first off
Samantha Bradley off a bloop rbi-single to center field. The lead would hold all the way to the fifth inning.
Bradley and Kassidy Wilbur were in a pitching duel throughout the entire game. Both would go the distance, with Bradley taking a tough loss after allowing a pair of runs on five hits. The 'Cats tied it up in the fifth off a
Linsey Tomlinson single up the middle. Both teams were scoreless in the sixth, but SFA broke through in the seventh.
A single to left scored the go-ahead run, but the Wildcats did not go away. A single and a walk put runners on the corners with two outs, but
Blair Clayton would strike out to end the game.
Tomlinson's two hits led the way for ACU.
Game 2: SFA 10, ACU 3
The Ladyjacks again got off to a good start, scoring twice in the opening frame, but this time ACU wasted no time responding.
Kayla Keeling tied the game with a two-run double to center, and the game was even. Things would change in the third.
SFA took the lead with one in the third and one in the fourth, but a two-run fifth pushed the lead to 6-2. ACU added a run in the sixth on a
Briana Tijerina single, but a three-run seventh pushed the visitors to double digits.
Calie Burris lasted three innings, and took the loss (5-7).
Jillian Hefner and Bradley eached tossed two innings of relief. Tijerina's two hits led the way for the Wildcats.
