Luis Trevino homered and a five-man Wildcat pitching staff combined for a four-hit shutout in Abilene Christian baseball's 11-0 (seven inning) victory over Arlington Baptist Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field. The shutout was ACU's second of the year.
Trevino's 11th round-tripper of the season broke a scoreless tie in the first inning, while Bourland's first of the spring came as part of a five-run fifth. Trevino also was credited with a pair of run-scoring singles in the fourth and fifth as he finished 3-for-3 with four RBI. Trevino is now hitting .419 on the season with 47 RBI and 101 total bases (.743 slugging).
Bourland also finished with a multi-hit game, going 2-3 with two runs and three RBI as he singled and scored during ACU's four-run fourth, and behind the plate he caught eight third strikes.
Drew Hanson (3-2) started and got a double play and strikeout following a leadoff single.
Zach Smith followed with four strikeouts through 3.0 innings, and then Bryan Jordan (1.1)
Cole McKay (0.2) and
David Ruot (1.0) allowed just three baserunners over the final 3.0 frames.
Tonight's win lifted ACU's season record to 19-17, while the Patriots slipped to 16-21. Next up for the Wildcats is a three-game Southland Conference home series vs. Lamar. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 1 p.m. Saturday.
