Wildcats post second-consecutive 100-point game to open season

ABILENE – The ACU women's basketball team did something it hasn't done since the 1995-96 season on Thursday morning. The Wildcats scored 100 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time in 24 years in front of a crowd of over 4,000 on Kids' Day inside Moody Coliseum. ACU led 20-2 and never looked back on its way to a 104-52 victory over the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest.

Key Plays
- After neither team got on the board in the first 1:20, senior Breanna Wright changed that with a layup.
- Makayla Mabry hit the game's first three-pointer at the 7:43 mark, and Dominique Golightly followed with one less than a minute later. It helped the Wildcats jump out to a 16-0 start, and a 24-10 lead after one quarter.
- After Southwest closed the first frame on an 8-4 run, ACU opened the second with with back-to-back buckets from Lexi Kirgan.
- The Wildcats pushed the lead to 32 at halftime after not allowing a Southwest point for the final 4:09 of the second quarter. ACU outrebounded the Mustangs 30-9 in the first half.
- With thousands of students from local elementary schools yelling and cheering for the Wildcats to score 100 points, the team turned to Diamond Willcot, who caught a brilliant backside pass from Madi Miller and scored on the right side to push the team to the century mark.

Turning Point
- The first quarter was the key to the game. ACU set the tone with a 16-0 lead and a 20-2 advantage with 3:16 to play in the frame. The Wildcats lowest point differential in a quarter was eight points in the third.

Stat Pack
- Senior Lexie Ducat led the way in scoring with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and hauled in six rebounds as well.
- Junior Anna McLeod added 15 points with three triples, and added five assists and five rebounds. The LA Tech transfer swiped the ball away seven times and was a big part of the 25 points off turnovers for the Wildcats. McLeod also leads the way with 34 points in two games.
- Makayla Mabry stuffed the stat sheet with 13 points on 3-of-7 from downtown, and added seven boards and four assists.

- Lexi Kirgan rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor.
- Dominique Golightly scored eight points, but hauled in a game-best nine rebounds and dished out a game-high six assists.

Head Coach Julie Goodenough
"The team is really locked in on sharing the ball right now. We are finding the open player and our chemistry has been really good out on the floor."

"It was an incredible atmosphere. You can't really prepare for how loud it is going to be. It's always a surprise, but I just love the environment. It gets you really excited to play the game, and it was incredibly loud. We love it."

"We have time to rest now, but no one has played in significant minutes as to where that would be an issue. Wright State is a really good program. It will be a good test for us next Friday [Nov. 15]."

Up Next
- The team does get that week off before heading to Dayton, Ohio for a matchup with the Wright State Raiders of the Horizon League, who made the NCAA Tournament a season ago. Tipoff on Friday, Nov. 15 is slated for 6 p.m. central time.
