ABILENE—ACU hosted Sam Houston State on Saturday afternoon, looking to break their three-match losing streak. The Bearkats came into the match 8-3 in Southland play while the Wildcats were at 3-8 in conference. The Wildcats gave Sam Houston a tough battle, but it was the Bearkats who came away with a five-set victory.
SHSU was in full control through the first two sets, winning 25-16 and 25-18. They were outhitting the Wildcats .288 to .100 through those two sets. ACU fought back in the third set, hitting .314 and coming away with 25-23 win in set three. The momentum swung into the Wildcats' favor and they dominated in set four totaling six blocks and earning the 25-17 win. ACU was unable to keep the momentum through set five as the Bearkats built an 11-1 lead and earned the match win with a 15-7 fifth set.
Kennedy Shelstead was a monster in the middle for ACU hitting .500 with 14 kills and eight total blocks.
Lorin McNeil also found success for the Wildcats hitting .407 with 13 kills.
Makenzie Kesler made her season debut and came away with 19 assists and four block assists to contribute to the Wildcats big blocking numbers.
Madison Rohre totaled 22 assists and earned the double-double with 16 digs as well.
