ACU welcomes first-place SFA Wednesday for Special Olympics Night

ABILENE – Abilene Christian women's basketball kicks off a two-game homestand Wednesday against the first-place Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin. Tip-off at Moody Coliseum is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed via ACUSports.com with Zach Carlyle handling the play-by-play.

Wednesday also will double as Special Olympics Night as a number of Special Olympians will be honored during the game, and at halftime there will be a five-minute game between two area Special Olympic basketball teams.

SFA is off to a 14-3 start and is one of two schools still undefeated in Southland Conference play at 5-0. Lamar also has a flawless record vs. the league with the Wildcats (12-5) standing right behind them at 5-1 following last week's 2-0 road swing vs. Houston Baptist (W, 72-62) and Northwestern State (W, 72-63). 

ACU shot 47.3 percent from the floor last week with 72.0 points and 42.0 rebounds per game as four players averaged double figures in scoring. Junior Dominique Golightly led her side with 19.5 ppg, and her .609 shooting percentage helped her earn an honorable mention for Southland Conference Player of the Week. 

Junior Lexie Ducat averaged close to a double-double vs. the Huskies and Lady Demons with 17 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while senior Sara Williamson made 71.4 percent of her shots in finishing with 14.0 ppg. Williamson, who is shooting .648 against the Southland, not only owns the league's top field-goal percentage at .625 but she's also No. 9 in the nation.

Williamson additionally cracks the league's top-15 list with a 1.74 assist turnover ratio, 4.7 assists per game, 1.4 blocked shots per game and 1.8 steals per game.

Junior Breanna Wright, who hit all six of her free throws last week, is second in the league and 36th nationally with a .866 free-throw percentage, and is right behind Williamson with 4.6 assists per game. She averaged 10 points per game vs. HBU and Northwestern State. 

SFA comes to Moody averaging 72.5 points per game with a +15.0 scoring margin led by the trio of Chanell Hayes (15.2 ppg), Imani Johnson (11.4 ppg) and Riley Harvey (10.2 ppg / 7.3 rpg). The Ladyjacks own the league's best winning percentage at .813, and are also the best 3-point shooting squad with a .359 percentage and 8.9 treys per game. They additionally dish out the most assists at 18.4 per game.

The Wildcats trail their all-time series vs. SFA, 8-2, with both wins coming in Nacogdoches during the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.
