ACU has won all seven of its previous games vs. HBU – with all but one of those contests decided by double digits – but this year's edition of the Huskies appears vastly improved despite their 6-7 overall and 1-2 Southland Conference records. Both of their league losses were on the against two of the Southland's best teams. Lamar defeated the Huskies, 63-50, and Nicholls toppled them, 77-54. In between, HBU scored an 83-74 home win vs. New Orleans, which the Wildcats beat at the Lakefront Arena earlier this month, 59-52.
Additional common opponents for the Wildcats and Huskies include Howard Payne (W, 93-60), Texas Tech (L, 82-76) and Southwest (W, 100-57). HBU this season also has defeated McMurry, Texas A&M-International and UL Monroe, while its losses have come against the likes of Wichita State, North Texas, Oklahoma St. and Oral Roberts.
HBU has lost five of its last seven games, but remains No. 1 in the Southland Conference in several defensive related categories. The Huskies are tops with 4.8 blocks and 30 defensive rebounds per game. They also have committed the fewest personal fouls and turnovers with 245 and 200, respectively, and claim the best field-goal percentage defense at 36.3 percent.
ACU, meanwhile, still has the Southland's No. 1 field-goal percentage at 45.1 and highest rebound margin at +8.4.
The Wildcats enter Wednesday's game with overall and conference records of 10-5 and 3-1 after falling 74-71 last Saturday at Southeastern La. ACU came all the way back from a 13-point second-quarter deficit, and held the lead with 2:00 to go in regulation, but the Lady Lions held them scoreless for the remainder of the game as two attempts for the game-tying 3-point field goal missed their mark.
