Wildcats draw 20 walks in 16-run win vs. MVSU

ABILENE – Abilene Christian complete its five-game season series sweep of Mississippi Valley State Wednesday night with a 20-4 victory at Crutcher Scott Field. The Wildcats sent nine batters to the plate in four innings thanks in part to 20 walks issued by the four Delta Devil pitchers. ACU also benefited from two infield errors and four hit batsmen in winning its 21st game of the season.

Dalon Farkas, Derek Scott and Seth Watts all finished with a game-high two hits and combined for eight RBI and four runs scored. Both of Farkas' hits were doubles, which gives him 20 on the season – second most in the Southland Conference.

Farkas' first double gave ACU a 2-1 lead in the first inning and he then came home three batters later on Scott's two-run single up the middle. Scott led all players this evening with four RBI, while Farkas, Caleb Kyle, Seth Watts and Collin Chaney each had two.

Matt Muñoz, Riley Donahue and Dalton Dunn, meanwhile, all led ACU with three runs scored even though this trio combined for just two base hits and 10 walks. Dunn worked a free pass on four occasions and had a second-inning RBI single.

All that offense made things easy for the three-man pitching staff of Colton Brasher (4-4), Jonathan Nicholson and Mark Geisel. Brasher whiffed four batters in his 5.0 innings of work. Nicholson allowed a run on one hit and a walk between the sixth and seventh and Geisel punched out two batters in his two scoreless innings of work.

ACU begins a four-game road trip Friday, which includes a three-game series at Northwestern State followed by a Tuesday night game at UTSA.

The Wildcats are back home next Thursday to Saturday for their final home series vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
