LAKE CHARLES, La. – ACU's season came to a disappointing end Tuesday afternoon as they suffered a 4-3 loss to Northwestern State in the first round of the Southland Conference Postseason Tournament at Joe Miler Field.
The Wildcats led 1-0 behind a solo home run from
Kayla Keeling in the fourth inning and stellar pitching from senior
Hannah Null until the Lady Demons struck for four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-1 lead. ACU scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded with two outs before
Alyson Bishoff lined out hard to shortstop Toni Hebert to end the game.
ACU finishes its season at 23-26 overall, while the Lady Demons moved on to face No. 3 seed McNeese at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday as the tournament moves into double-elimination for each team.
Null fanned off seven batters in her 27th complete-game effort of the season. The Highland Village native allowed only four runs on five hits with her first hit allowed coming in the fourth inning.
The Wildcats graduate seven seniors with six of them being starters that led the team to the league's postseason tournament in its first year of eligibility. In addition to Null, the Wildcats will lose
Peyton Hedrick,
Brianna Barnhill,
Holly Neese, Bishoff,
Braegan Hamilton and
Savannah Rendon.
