ABILENE – Seven Abilene Christian throwers set new personal bests while winning five of six entered events Friday afternoon at the McMurry War Hawk Classic.

Lonnie Smith tossed two new personal bests in the hammer throw and discus. She led a Wildcat sweep of the top three places in the hammer with her toss of 54.08 meters and came in third place in the discus (48.45) behind teammates
Kayla Melgar (53.32m) and
Annina Brandenburg (48.45m).
Melgar – who last weekend at TCU set two school records in the discus and hammer – was the runner up to Smith in the hammer with a best effort of 51.55m, while
Taylor Posey placed third with her PR mark of 49.75m. Posey additionally won the shot put title over Jada Jackson of Texas Lutheran, 12.07m to 11.61m.
On the men's side,
Kai Schmidt finished first in shot put and discus with throws of 17.82m and 58.00m, respectively, to recorded two new PRs and teammate
Morgan Knight was right behind him in each event, grabbing runner-up honors in the shot put (16.90m – PR) and discus (55.27 – PR).
Ryan Simmons nearly gave the Wildcats a clean sweep of the throws titles, but finished .10 meters shy of TLU's Alejandro Briseno in the hammer, 47.43m to 47.33m.
No ACU competitors were entered in the javelin.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow when the host the Wes Kittley Invitational at Elmer Gray Stadium starting at 9 a.m.
