MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – George Mason scored six runs in the first four innings Sunday morning and that was enough as GMU knocked off ACU, 6-2, in the final game of the Eastern Michigan / Madeira Beach Invitational.
GMU sophomore pitcher Bekah Ansboro got the nod against ACU and threw six innings, allowing only one earned run and struck out four en route to her first win of the season.
The Patriots strung together three hits in a span of four batters in the second inning, beginning with a Jess Curbeira double to give the Patriots a runner in scoring position with less than two outs. Moments later, Miah Wilson drove home Curbeira for the Patriots' first run of the game. Marissa Butts' single moments later drove Wilson home and the Patriots led 2-0 after one full time through the batting order.
Mason extended its lead in the top of the fourth, putting four on the scoreboard to take a 6-0 lead. ACU senior
Holly Neese blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning to account for the Wildcats' only two runs. ACU freshman pitcher Callie Burris was tagged with the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year.
The Wildcats (4-5) return to action Wednesday in Lubbock when they take on the Texas Tech Lady Raiders at 6 p.m.
