NCAA Division I Academic All-America team
AUSTIN – ACU junior wide receiver
Josh Fink has been selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America NCAA Division I football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Fink – the only player from a university in the state of Texas – is one of 13 offensive players from the NCAA Division I FCS level to be voted to the first team, which includes University of Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert, who was voted Academic All-America Team Member of the Year.
"Earning a national recognition like this truly makes me feel like I'm playing a part in elevating the status of ACU Athletics," Fink said. "I'm very thankful to have coaches that push me to excel in all areas of life. It's a blessing to see my dedication to academics be honored in such a prestigious way."
Fink — who was a first team academic all-district selection — is a junior accounting / finance major from Coppell with a 3.95 grade point average. He is the first ACU football player to earn Academic All-America honors at the NCAA Division I level and the first player in the program to earn those honors since placekicker Matt Adams earned NCAA Division II second team All-America honors in 2008. The last ACU football player to earn first team academic All-America honors since offensive lineman Nathan Young was selected a Division II honoree in 2007.
"We are extremely excited for Josh and his family," ACU head coach
Adam Dorrel said. "What a tremendous honor to be named academic All-America. Josh is a quality young man who does everything right on and off the field. He is a great Christian role model for the rest of our football team. Josh has earned everything that he has and we're very proud of him."
He was ninth in the Southland Conference (55),13th in the league in receiving yards (644), tied for 14th in receiving touchdowns (4) and 15th in receiving yards per game (58.5).
He will enter his senior season in 2019 10th on the all-time receptions list (122) and just outside the top 10 in yardage (1,461 career receiving yards). He finished 2018 with career single-season bests in receptions, yards and touchdowns.
