TULSA, Okla. – The ACU soccer team was unable to overcome Oral Roberts in Friday's matchup falling to the Golden Eagles, 4-1. ORU scored four goals in the first half of the contest to gain control and ACU never recovered. ACU and ORU are each 2-4 on the season.
The Wildcats scored their lone goal when sophomore
Shay Johnson headed in an assist from
Dylan Owens after a corner kick by Johnson. Johnson's corner kick connected with Owens, who was able to send the ball back to Johnson to find the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
"Oral Roberts is too good of a team to get behind 4-0 at the half," ACU head coach
Casey Wilson said. "We won the second half 1-0 and played well overall, but that was not enough tonight. We have to play 90 minutes and the team knows that."
Oral Roberts got on the board in the sixth minute of the match when Lexi Jones sent a pass to Sierra Beall to cross the line for an early 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles added to their lead picking up two goal in less than one minute. ORU's Caitlyn Hanslovan connected with a pass from Amanda Dial to add one more and 55 seconds later Dial found the back of the net, extending the lead to 3-0. ORU tacked on its final goal of the night in the 32
nd minute.
Wilson's crew now has one day to recover before concluding the non-conference portion of their schedule Sunday when it takes on Oklahoma State in Stillwater at 1 p.m.
