Box Score DALLAS – ACU jumped out to a 5-1 lead Tuesday night at Dallas Baptist, but the Patriots answered with eight straight runs and a dominant bullpen as they knocked off the Wildcats, 10-6, at Horner Ballpark.
The loss drops ACU to 13-36 overall, while the Patriots improve to 34-18. ACU will close out the Southland Conference schedule Thursday-Saturday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before closing out the season next week with a four-game set (Thursday-Sunday) at No. 1-ranked Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore.
Things started well for the Wildcats, who scored three runs in the top of the first on DBU starting pitcher Trevor Conn, who went just one inning in the ballgame.
Derek Scott had an RBI double,
Aaron Draper an RBI single and
Cole Solomon a bases-loaded walk to drive in ACU's three runs.
After DBU got a run in the bottom of the first off ACU starter
Keaton Brewer, the Wildcats answered back with two more runs in the top of the second on an
Anthony Dominguez sacrifice fly and a double-steal that saw Scott swipe the plate to make it 5-1.
But it was all DBU after that as the Patriots grabbed the lead for good with a six-run fourth inning off both Brewer and reliever
David Ruot. DBU cleanup hitter Matt Duce had a two-run double in the inning to give the Patriots the lead for good at 6-5.
After ACU got the two runs in the second to make it a 5-1 game, the Wildcats only got one more run the rest of the night, and that didn't come until an RBI infield single by
Luis Trevino. DBU reliever Jimmy Fouse threw four innings of shutout relief to get the win for the Patriots.
