ABILENE - The Abilene Christian cross country program visits the University of North Texas in Denton Saturday morning for the Ken Garland Invitational. The women will first run a 5K at 8:10 a.m. followed by the Dr. Victor Rodriguez Men's Collegiate 4-mile at 8:40 a.m.

This will be ACU's first competitive four-mile run (6.43 kilometer) since moving into NCAA DI Athletics in 2013, and is considerably shorter than the 8K the Wildcats ran last Thursday at Texas Tech on its Big 12 Championship course. ACU's women ran a 6K in Lubbock and were led to the finish line by junior Gabby Thompson's 13th-place time of 24:24.70.

Thompson was joined there by five of her teammates, all of whom were making their collegiate debuts.

North Florida transfer Travis Nichols posted ACU's fastest time of 28:18.70 and placed eighth among all the DI runners. Nichols was one of 10 Wildcats to run last week, and for Saturday's race the Wildcats are expecting back junior Ryan Cleary and senior Sterlen Paul.

Competing unattached this weekend will be ACU's gifted group of redshirts: Diana García Muñoz, Alexandria and Michaela Hackett, and Carnley Graham.

The Wildcats oppostion in the collegiate races includes teams from TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, UT-Arlington, North Texas, Letourneau University, Texas Wesleyan University and Wiley College.
