Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Wildcats drop Southland game to Lions

ABILENE – Southeastern Louisiana's duo of DeVonte Upson on the inside and Cedric Jenkins on the outside was too much for the ACU Wildcats to handle Saturday afternoon as the Lions walked out of Moody Coliseum with a 65-52 win in Southland Conference men's basketball action.

Upson scored a season-high 24 points and Jenkins poured in 14 more to lead the Lions to just their second road win of the season. The loss for the Wildcats is their seventh straight as they fall to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in the Southland. Southeastern, meanwhile, improves to 6-16 and 3-6 in conference play.

ACU will be back in action Monday at 7 p.m. when the Wildcats take on Lamar in a conference game at the Culwell Center in Garland. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Moody Coliseum, but the site of the game had to be moved because of ACU's annual Sing Song production has taken over the coliseum. Monday night's game can be heard on 98.1 FM The Ticket.

Southeastern led the game for almost 28 of the 40 minutes as the Wildcats never really threatened the Lions.  Southeastern led 26-24 at halftime and 38-35 with 10:06 to play after ACU freshman Isaiah Tripp hit a layup to cut the deficit to three points.

Shortly after that, though, the Lions ripped off a 12-2 run to take control of the contest. Jenkins had a layup to get the run started, followed by a 3-pointer from Daniel Grieves, a layup from Upson, dunk from Upson on the break and a 3-pointer from Jenkins. The 3-pointer from Jenkins pushed Southeastern's lead to 50-37 with 6:38 to play wouldn't get closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Harrison Hawkins led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Austin Cooke had 13.
