Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big second-half run leads ACU past Rambelles, 70-55

ABILENE – ACU sophomore center Sydney Shelstead recorded a career-high 21 points Monday night as she and Suzzy Dimba each recorded double-doubles to lead the Wildcats to a 70-55 non-conference win over Angelo State in non-conference women's basketball action at Moody Coliseum.

The win pushes ACU to 10-8 overall, while the Rambelles fall to 5-13 on the season. ACU now leads the all-time series 53-35 and has won four straight over their former Lone Star Conference rival. ACU will be back in action Thursday at 7 p.m. when it takes on Houston Baptist in a Southland Conference game in Houston.

Monday night's game was actually a close contest throughout the first half and into the early part of the second half before ACU broke away from the Rambelles. ACU led 39-35 at halftime, but saw the Rambelles tie the game at 44-44 with 16:03 to play on a 3-pointer by Keanna Kelly.

But that was the last time the Rambelles would actually be in the game as ACU ripped off an 18-4 run over the ensuing 7:09 to turn a tie game into a 62-48 lead. Shelstead and Dimba each had six points in the run and Alexis Mason and Whitney West each had three points in the burst that gave the Wildcats the separation they needed.

Dimba got the run started with a jumper with 15:11 to play to make it 46-44, and she capped the burst with a layup at the 8:54 mark to make it 62-48.

For Shelstead, her 21-point, 11-rebound effort is the seventh double-double of the season and ninth of her career, while Dimba recorded her fifth double-double of the season and 16th of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Shelstead's 21 points tops her previous career high of 20 points set on Nov. 19, 2013, in ACU's win over Northwood.
