ABILENE, Texas – ACU's offense never found a rhythm Sunday afternoon and turned the ball over 31 times as Nicholls rolled to a 63-39 win over the Wildcats in a Southland Conference women's basketball game at Moody Coliseum.
The Wildcats missed their first six shots, fell behind 8-0 and never got within eight points of the lead in the final 35 minutes of the game to drop their fourth straight game. Now 7-6 overall and 0-3 in league play, the Wildcats are back in action Wednesday night against McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. Nicholls is now 6-8 overall and 2-1 in the Southland.
The Wildcats hit just 27.5 percent of their shots from the floor (14 of 51), including just 13.6 percent from 3-point range (3 of 22). ACU sophomore center
Sydney Shelstead was the only Wildcat in double figures, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds in another solid effort.
The Colonels, meanwhile, found the range from beyond the 3-point arc early, hitting 5 of 10 in the first half and 5 for 9 in the second half to finish 10 for 19 (52.6 percent) for the game. Nicholls, which played the game without leading scorer Emani White, was led by 19 points from Jenny Nash, who hit 5 of 9 from 3-point range. Veronica Ryan had 13 points and Hope Pawlowski had 10 for Nicholls.
