Soccer suffers 2-0 loss at No. 7 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - Abilene Christian's soccer team lost its first-ever match against a nationally ranked NCAA DI soccer program, 2-0, to the undefeated and No. 7 Red Raiders of Texas Tech Sunday night at the John Walker Complex.

The win improved Texas Tech's season record to 7-0, while the Wildcats fell to 3-5.

After being held scoreless on three saves by Wildcat goalkeeper Kelsey Dombrowski in the first half, the Red Raiders quickly found the back of the net 24 seconds into the second half when Janine Beckie finished a through pass delivered to her by Alli Murphy.

Beckie's goal was her fourth of the year. She was second on her team with four shots and placed three on goal through 64 minutes of play.

Texas Tech added an insurance goal in the 65th minute after Paige Strahan struck the upper left corner off an assist from Meagan McCullough. Strahan fired five shots and her goal was No. 2 for the season.

The Red Raiders finished with an 18-2 advantage in shots with both Wildcat attempts (by Chloe Fifer and Leslie Snider) coming in the second half.

Lauren Watson didn't make a single save for the Red Raiders in recording her third shutout of the fall. Dombrowski finished with five saves and had two in the second half off shots from Jade Dapaah and Beckie.

The Wildcats return to action Friday for the start of their second Southland Conference season at Sam Houston State. ACU will kick off against the Bearkats at 6:30 p.m. before visiting Houston Baptist Sunday at 1 p.m. The Wildcats defeated both teams at home last season.
