Wildcats set to host Southwestern Adventist in non-conference game


ABILENE – The ACU men's basketball team plays its penultimate game of the season Saturday night when it hosts Southwestern Adventist University in a non-conference game at Moody Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Wildcats are 10-17 on the season after back-to-back wins over Dallas Christian (108-69 last Saturday) and Arlington Baptist (80-66 on Tuesday). After Saturday night's game, ACU will have just three games remaining in its initial season at the NCAA Division I level. The Wildcats will be in Thibodaux, La., next Thursday night to take on Nicholls State, followed by a Saturday afternoon game at McNeese State. The Wildcats will close out the 2013-14 season on Saturday, March 8, when they host Incarnate Word at Moody Coliseum.

Sophomore guard Parker Wentz – who has scored at least 11 points in 11 straight games – is now the Wildcats' leading scorer on the season at 12.8 points per game. He saved the Wildcats in Tuesday's win over Arlington Baptist, scoring 11 points in the final 2:47 to help stretch ACU's lead from 66-62 to the final of 80-66.

Wentz – who scored a game-high 24 points in the win – also had one block and one steal in the final minutes.

Junior guard Julian Edmonson – who has scored at least 16 points in each of the Wildcats' last five games – had 16 in the win over Arlington Baptist and is now averaging 10.0 points per game.
