Box Score BOISE, Idaho – The ACU Wildcats' road woes continued Saturday morning as they lost their fifth road contest of the season, dropping a 77-33 decision to Boise State in the second game of the Continental Las Vegas Classic at Taco Bell Arena.
The Wildcats (4-6 overall, but 0-5 on the road) will now head to Las Vegas where they will play South Carolina State at 2:30 p.m. Monday (4:30 p.m. Abilene time). ACU will then play either Southern Utah or Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday in the team's final game before the Christmas holiday.
ACU – which struggled shooting the ball Wednesday night in a loss to Loyola-Chicago – continued to have trouble finding the range Saturday as the Wildcats hit just 11 of 55 shots from the field (20 percent), including 6 of 19 from 3-point range (31.6 percent). The Broncos, meanwhile, had no trouble offensively as they hit 59.6 percent of their shots from the field (31 of 52), including 50 percent from 3-point range (10 of 20).
The game was decided in the game's first 13 minutes as the Broncos raced out to a 27-6 lead behind eight points from leading scorer Derrick Marks. A baseline dunk by James Webb III gave the Broncos a 27-6 lead with 6:28 left in the half. While Boise was having no trouble scoring in that stretch, ACU couldn't buy a bucket as the Wildcats were 2 for 20 at that point with only a pair of
Austin Cooke 3-pointers on the board.
The Wildcats did manage to cut Boise's lead to 29-17 with a small burst keyed by a pair of 3-pointers from
Jalen Little, but Marks hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left in the first half to push the lead back to 15 points at 34-19.
ACU hit just 5 of 27 shots from the floor in the second half (18.5 percent) while Boise knocked down 17 of 29 shots, including 6 of 13 from 3-point range to pull away for the big win. Cooke was the only Wildcat to finish in double figures as he had 11 points and six rebounds in the contest. Little had his best offensive game of the season with nine points, all of them coming from 3-point range.
