Box Score TULSA, Okla. – Too much length and athleticism from Tulsa and too many missed open looks by ACU combined to make it a long night on the floor for the Wildcats as the Golden Hurricane took a 65-39 win in non-conference basketball action at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The Wildcats shot just 27.3 percent from the floor (15 for 55) and never found a way to penetrate Tulsa's defense. Of ACU's 40 missed shots from the floor, almost half were open looks that weren't knocked by the Wildcats.
ACU also failed to get to the free throw line, hitting just 4 of 7 shots from the charity stripe while Tulsa hit 14 of 25 free throws. The Wildcats were just 5 of 22 from 3-point range and leading 3-point shooter
Parker Wentz hit just 1 of 5 from beyond the arc. Wentz, in fact, saw his streak of 16 straight double-figure games dating back to January 2014 go by the wayside as he finished with seven points.
The Wildcats – who kept it close for the first nine minutes – trailed 20-10 with eight minutes left in the first half before reeling off five straight points on a 3-pointer by Wentz and a layup by
Duran Porter to cut the lead to 20-15 with 6:45 to play. But the Golden Hurricane ripped off a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to push its lead to 15 points (32-17) and the Wildcats would never make much headway after that point.
Austin Cooke led the Wildcats with 12 points on 5 of 11 shooting from the floor, including 2 of 7 from 3-point range. D'Andre Wright led the Golden Hurricane with 16 points, while James Woodard had 13.
ACU (1-1) will be back in action Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Duquesne (1-0) of the Atlantic 10 Conference at Moody Coliseum.
