Freshman Xavier King Makes All-Conference Team In LSC Championships Debut

2012 LSC Championships Results

ABILEN
E - Toronto, Ontario, native and freshman Xavier King was the lone bright spot on an otherwise glum day for the Abilene Christian cross country program as his 12th-place overall finish at the Lone Star Conference Championships earned him a spot on the all-conference team.

King, as he has all season, was the first Wildcat to finish with an 8-kilometer time of 25 minutes and 59 seconds, which was his best mark since the season-opener at McMurry (25:52.39). Following King were ACU senior James Grantham, who just missed the all-conference list with his 16th-place showing of 26:14, junior all-academic honorees Erik Forrister (26th-26:35) and Gary Duncan (51st-28:08), Banjo Jayesimi (60th-29:58) and Taylor Ochs (61st-30:02).

ACU's men's team placed seventh out of nine teams with 165 points, five points behind sixth-place and championships host Cameron University. Eastern New Mexico easily won its second straight conference crown with 37 points as Greyhound Isaiah Samoei led all runners with a time of 24:43.

West Texas A&M placed a distant second on the men's side with 75 points, but won its first conference title on the women's side to break Midwestern State's four-year reign at the top. The Lady Buffs had the top three finishers and all five runners in the top-15, including individual champion Brenda Sindet (22:12) for a team score of 30 points.

The Mustangs finished second with 64 points and were followed by Incarnate Word, Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, Tarleton State, Commerce, Kingsville and ACU. The Wildcats were without their top-runner Alyse Goldsmith, who qualified for last year's NCAA Championships after placing third at conference and fourth at regionals.

Ayesha Rumble was ACU's top runner today with a 20th-place and season-best 6K time of 23:40. She was followed by Mariah Welty-Kile (55th-26:15), Oksana Hayes (58th-28:06), Rachel Belcher (60th-29:58) and Kayla Calvert (61st-32:24).
