Wildcats fall to TexAnns

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State held ACU to 24 points below their season per-game average Wednesday night as the No 19 TexAnns rolled to a 65-48 win over the Wildcats in a Lone Star Conference South Division women's basketball game at Wisdom Gym.

The loss drops the Wildcats to 11-14 overall and 8-5 in the LSC South, while the TexAnns improve to 23-2 and 13-0.  ACU will close out the regular season Saturday at 5 p.m. when it hosts Midwestern State at Moody Coliseum.  The Wildcats will then play next Wednesday in the first round of the LSC Post-Season Tournament in Bartlesville, Okla.

ACU never led Wednesday against the TexAnns and trailed by as many as 26 points (60-34) with 7:42 left in the game when Morgan Stehling hit a pair of free throws.

Tarleton, one of the top defensive teams in the league, held ACU to just 13 of 51 shooting from the floor (25 percent), including 3 of 12 from the 3-point line (25 percent).

ACU entered the game averaging 72 points per game, but had just 21 points in the first half as the Wildcats trailed 33-21 at the break.

Freshman guard Mack Lankford led the Wildcats with 16 points, the only ACU player to finish in double figures in scoring.  Tarleton State, meanwhile, had four players in double figures led by 14 points from Stehling.
