ABILENE ? The ACU Wildcat volleyball team will return to action at Moody Coliseum Thursday night when they take on Lone Star Conference South Division foe Angelo State at 7 p.m.
ACU is returning home after a seven-game road trip, which saw them finish with a 6-1 record.
The Wildcats enter the match against the Rambelles on a five-game winning streak. ACU is 15-8 overall and 6-1 in LSC South play. The Wildcats already own a 3-1 victory over Angelo State this year when they went to San Angelo on Sept. 19.
Angelo State, which is currently on a nine-game losing streak, is 3-19 overall and 1-6 in LSC South play.
"It's been a tough last couple of weeks for us," ACU head volleyball coach Kellen Mock said. "We struggled at times with our play on the road trip, and we had to squeak by in a couple of those games; but I think that shows a lot about the character of my girls that they were able to escape with wins in hostile environments."
In fact, the last three victories for the Wildcats have gone the distance ? with ACU winning in five-game thrillers. Those victories included matches against Texas Women's (at the LSC Crossover Tournament in Kingsville), Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville.
"We need to improve a lot on the consistency of our play," Mock said. "We learned a lot from the road trip, and because the regular season is winding down it is time that we start peaking with our play."
After the match with San Angelo, the Wildcats will again travel on the road ? this time to Austin to face St. Edward's in their last non-conference match of the year. ACU already holds a Sept. 25, 3-1 home victory over the Hilltoppers. St. Edward's is currently on an eight-game losing streak, and is 6-19 overall.
The Wildcats are currently in second place in the LSC South standings (West Texas A&M is 7-0). ACU suffered its only LSC South loss at WTAMU earlier this year, and the two will square off again next week (Oct. 26) when ACU hosts the Buffaloes at 7 p.m.
