ACU falls to Miners, 82-53

Wildcats fall to Miners, 82-53

Cold-shooting first half dooms ACU in loss to Division I foe

EL PASO -- Another cold-shooting first half doomed the ACU Wildcats in an 82-53 loss to NCAA Division I foe Texas-El Paso in a men's exhibition basketball game Monday night at the Don Haskins Center.

The Wildcats will begin the 2005-06 regular season Tuesday at 8 p.m. when they host Huston-Tillotson at Moody Coliseum.

Just like last Friday night at North Texas when the Wildcats were outscored 38-15 in the first half of a 73-50 loss to the Mean Green, ACU again had trouble scoring in the first half.  The Wildcats were outscored 46-21 in the opening 20 minutes while shooting just 32.1 percent from the field (9 for 28).

However, just like last Friday night when the Wildcats battled North Texas to a 35-35 draw against the Mean Green, ACU played UTEP fairly evenly on Monday as the Miners outscored the Wildcats just 36-32 in the second half.

Junior guard Tiago Souza, who had 17 points against North Texas, had another 13 points to lead the Wildcats against the Miners.
