Cameron rallies to win team title

Aggies storm from behind to win; ACU finishes 9th

ABILENE -- Cameron's Owen Mahaffey fired a one-under-par 71 Tuesday to win the individual championship and lead the Aggies to the overall team championship at the Fairway Oaks West Texas Intercollegiate golf tournament.

Cameron fired a second-round 287, following its first-round 297 for a two-round total of 584, three strokes better than Washburn (Mo.) and Southwestern Oklahoma State, both of which shot two-round totals of 587 to tie for second in the team race.  The hosts from Abilene Christian finished tied with Mary Hardin-Baylor for ninth at 607, followed by Texas A&M-Commerce and Hardin-Simmons tied for 11th at 611.

Mahaffey followed his opening-round 72 with a second-round 71, the second-best round of the day, for a two-round total of 143, one shot better than Josh Luongo of West Texas A&M and Kevin King of Northeastern State.  The first-day leaders, Tyson Mooring and Eric Fox of Southwestern Oklahoma State, each shot 76 after they each recorded opening-round 69s to finish tied for fourth at 145.

ACU's best finishers were Matt Samples and Curtis Harris, each of whom shot two-round totals of 152 to finish tied for 39th.
