Wildcats win four in a row
ACU bats .343 for the series to even its record at 6-6
ABILENE - The ACU Wildcat baseball team rebounded from a five game losing streak and defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State University in four straight contests.
The Wildcats evened their record at 6-6 with wins of 4-0, 20-1, 13-2 and 7-2. Coy Polk, Aaron Lawler, Ben Brockman and Ben Maynard all won games from the mound and centerfielder Chris Judkins scored six runs, drove in four, and was 4-8 from the plate on the weekend.
The Wildcats will take on Dallas Baptist in Dallas on Tuesday before returning home for a three-game set with West Texas A&M next weekend.
Game 1:
Coy Polk threw a two-hit shutout for ACU, striking out seven batters as the Wildcats blanked Panhandle St. 4-0.
The Wildcats were held to only three hits offensively, but managed to steal five bases and accumulate four walks in the victory.
Game 2:
The Wildcat bats came alive in the second game as they pounded Panhandle St. with 10 hits and won 20-1.
Second baseman Matt Callahan, third baseman Alec Sowards, and leftfielder Dan Gubbels each had three R.B.I.s, while Cody Cure and Chris Judkins drove in two apiece for the Wildcats.
ACU received a strong pitching performance from senior Aaron Lawler who scattered six hits over six innings and struck out 10. Andrew Dillman struck out the side in the seventh with a quick 11 pitch inning to finish off PSU.
Game 3:
The Wildcats remained hot offensively in the third game hitting 13-31 and had a solid outing from starting pitcher Ben Brockman as ACU defeated PSU 13-2.
Ryan Barker went 2-3 from the plate and drove in three runs, while Matt Callahan hit a two-run homer in the fourth to spark the Wildcat offense.
Brockman pitched six innings, allowed six hits, and struck out seven PSU batters. Andrew Dillman closed out the game again in the seventh inning striking out two.
Game 4:
Freshman Ben Maynard picked up the win from the mound and ACU had 10 hits in a 7-2 win over PSU to complete the four-game sweep on the weekend.
Maynard pitched five innings, allowed only four hits, two runs, and struck out six. Cassidy Coffman and Sam Hall each got one inning of relief; neither allowed a hit and struck out two and three respectively.
The Wildcats received a three hit performance from Ryan Barker and Chris Gaw and Don Brockman each drove in two runs for ACU.
