Angelo State sweeps ACU
Wildcats knocked out of post-season by Rambelles
ABILENE -- ACU's 2003 season came to a resounding end last weekend when it was swept by Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference South Division series at Wells Field.
The Rambelles won the four games of the series by the scores of 11-2, 2-1, 8-5 and 15-0. The 15-0 win was stopped after five innings because of the run rule.
The four losses drop ACU to a final record of 24-31 overall and 7-13 in the LSC South Division. The Rambelles, meanwhile, improve to 44-8 overall and won the LSC South Division with a 16-4 record. The Rambelles are the top seed from the LSC South for this weekend's LSC Post-Season Tournament in Irving.
The Wildcats couldn't control Angelo State's leadoff hitter, rightfielder Alexis Wing, who finished the series 11 for 19 with six runs scored and five RBI. She was 3 for 5 with four runs, one RBI and one stolen base in Saturday's 15-0 win.
ACU shortstop Robin Woodall capped her sensational season by going 5 for 10 with four runs scored, three RBI and two home runs in the series. Both of her home runs came in Saturday's 8-5 loss, and helped her finish with 10 home runs, which is a new ACU single-season and record.
Woodall, who hit .363, is also the new career home run leader with 10, and her 46 RBI this season tied her for the single-season lead with Leanne Mahan, who had 46 RBI in 1997. Sensational sophomore Katie Bryan finished the season hitting .369 with seven home runs and 34 RBI.
