ACU readies for First-Pitch

ACU to play four LSC North teams in conference tourney

IRVING -- The ACU softball team will continue its season this weekend when it plays in the Lone Star Conference First-Pitch Tournament at the Southwest Park softball complex.

The Wildcats are 2-3 on the season after opening the 2003 campaign last weekend at the Las Vegas Classic. ACU lost its first three games of the season before bouncing back to beat both Adams State (Colo.) and Fort Lewis (Colo.) in its final two games of the tournament.

ACU will get the First-Pitch Tournament started at noon Friday against East Central, followed by a 2 p.m. game against Northeastern State.

The Wildcats will conclude their portion of the tournament Saturday at 10 a.m. against Southeastern Oklahoma State and at 2 p.m. against Cameron.

ACU pitchers Christina Yorkey picked up the Wildcats' two victories on the mound last weekend, going 2-1 with wins over Adams State and Fort Lewis after a loss to Southern Colorado in the tournament opener.

Shauna Bragg - who went 0-2 on the mound - led the way for the Wildcats in their first win of the season, going 3 for 3 with three RBI in the win over Adams State. Sophomore Katie Bryan was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBI in the win over Adams State.

Junior catcher Heather Hicks had a home run in the loss to Southern Colorado and had two RBI in the win over Fort Lewis.
