O'Leary falls to 20-over-par with second-round 83
ACU junior well back after second round at national tournament

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- ACU junior Brian O'Leary fell further back
in the pack Wednesday at the NCAA Division II national golf tournament,
shooting a second-round 12-over-par 83 at the Mission Inn Resort.
O'Leary's two-day total of 162 is 20-over-par and leaves him tied for
78th place in the individual medalist race with two days and 36 holes left
to play.
Jason Vaughn of North Alabama is on top of the individual leaderboard
after firing a 3-under-par 68 in Tuesday's second round for a two-day total
of 1-over-par 143. He is two strokes ahead of Western Washington's Josh
Immordino and Cal State Chico's J.J. Jakovac, both of whom are are 3-over-par
145 after two rounds.
After entering Wednesday's second round in fourth place, North Alabama
moved into a tie for the lead with a second-round 303 for a two-day total
of 601. UNA is tied with Cal State-Stanislaus for the lead, three strokes
ahead of Florida Southern and four strokes ahead of Cal State-Bakersfield,
which led after Monday's opening round.
The Lone Star Conference's only team representative, Cameron, is tied
for 16th place in the 18-team field at 631 after two rounds.
ACU's team did not reach the national tournament after finishing fifth
at the regional tournament earlier this month, but O'Leary was able to earn
an invitation based on his strong play this spring. He finished tied for
third at the regional tournament, finishing seven strokes behind regional
champion Kolby Seals of Cameron.
Two weeks before that, O'Leary -- who had a scoring average of 74.3 for
18 rounds this spring -- finished 10th at the LSC tournament.
The national tournament is a four-day, 72-hole tournament that will conclude
Friday.
