ACU in 6th after first 2 rounds of LSC tournament

Wildcats 17 shots behind tournament-leading Central Oklahoma

MESQUITE -- The ACU golf team finished Monday's first day of the Lone Star Conference golf championships in sixth place, 17 shots behind tournament-leading Central Oklahoma.

The Wildcats, who finished as the runners-up to Cameron at last year's tournament, shot an opening-round 303 at the par-71, 6,845-yard Firewheel Golf Park. ACU then followed that with a second-round 296 for a two-round total of 599.

The Bronchos, meanwhile, were shooting 293-289 for a 582 total, two shots ahead of second-place Cameron, which shot 292-292 for a 584 total.

Kolby Seals of Cameron leads the individual medalist race after firing 3-under-par 139 over two rounds. He opened with a two-under 69, followed by a 70 to take a two-stroke lead over Nate Brown of East Central. Central Oklahoma's Dustin Semsch, one of the favorites to win the individual title entering the tournament, is in ninth with a two-round total of 147.

ACU's top individual on Monday was junior David Van Ryke, who is tied for 11th with a two-round total of 148. Junior Brian O'Leary is tied for 17th at 149.

The rest of the Wildcats look like this: James Fleming tied for 25th with a 152 total, Gary Pike and Trey Rowe each tied at 29th with 154 totals.
