All-LSC Team
RICHARDSON – ACU had nine first team performers and two individual award winners on the all-Lone Star Conference football team, which was announced Thursday afternoon.
LSC champion Midwestern State also had nine first team selections, but the Mustangs had five individual award winners after they finished 10-0 for the first time in program history.
ACU – which finished second in the league and qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs for the sixth straight season – had nine first-teamers with five on offense and four on defense plus a pair of repeat individual winners in junior quarterback Mitchell Gale and senior defensive end Aston Whiteside.
Gale – who directs the nation's No. 3-ranked passing offense – was voted the league's Offensive Back of the Year, despite being only a second team selection at quarterback behind MSU quarterback Brandon Kelsey, who was the league's Offensive Player of the Year and first team quarterback.
Gale leads the LSC in virtually every passing category, including yards (3,317) and touchdown passes (24) and in total offense (334.9 yards per game).
Whiteside – just 2.5 sacks shy of tying the record for sacks in a career at ACU (34) – was voted the league's Defensive Player of the Year and Defensive Lineman of the Year. Whiteside is fourth in the LSC in sacks (6.0) and sixth in tackles for loss (12.5).
MSU added several individual honors with Offensive Player of the Year Kelsey, two-time Offensive Lineman of the Year Amini Silatolu, Receiver of the Year David Little, Freshman of the Year Jimmy Pipken and Coach of the Year Bill Maskill.
Other Wildcats on the first team were fullback Justin Andrews, tight end Ben Gibbs, center Matt Webber, left tackle Neal Tivis, placekicker Morgan Lineberry, linebacker Nate Baggs, safety Darien Williams, and deep snapper Brent Schroeder.
Second team selections were Gale at quarterback, running back Daryl Richardson, wide receiver Taylor Gabriel, guard Josh Perez, and defensive tackle Donald Moore.
Wildcats on the honorable mention team were guard Blake Spears, tackle Jerod Harrell, return specialist Charcandrick West, linebacker Thor Woerner, cornerback L.B. Suggs, cornerback Nate Bailey, and punter Spencer Covey.
