RICHARDSON -- The ACU Wildcats will make their second straight appearance in the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Championship, which is set for this weekend at The Pitch in Canyon.
The Wildcats (10-6-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the LSC) enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will play No. 4 seed Midwestern State at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. ACU dropped a 3-0 decision to Midwestern State in its regular-season finale last Friday in Wichita Falls.
The winner of that match will play West Texas A&M at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. The championship match is set for 1 p.m Sunday with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II South Central Region Tournament.
West Texas A&M, 13-2-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the LSC, is the top seed for the six-team, single-elimination tournament for the second straight season. The Lady Buffs won their second consecutive and fifth overall LSC crown in 2008.
Central Oklahoma also earned a first-round bye as the runner-up with a 7-3 league record.
The championship begins on Thursday at noon with No. 3 Texas Woman’s playing No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce, followed by the ACU-MSU match at 2:30 p.m.
